Kinipela is a Tropical Orange and White Pyramid butterflyfish with brown eyes who belongs to Moana. She wears a pearl necklace with a green obsidian in the center that resembles Moana's and a seaweed tail ornament.
Moana was playing with her goat friend, Seashore on the beach when she heard splashing coming from the cove by the rocks. Quietly, she hid behind a rock to watch. A Pyramid butterflyfish was in the shallow water, bobbing its fins and flippers up and down. She was so graceful, gliding about in the water. "What a wonderful swimmer!" Moana said out loud. The fish looked up in response to Moana's voice. The three friends swam and played together until it was sunset. "You swim so well that I'm going to call you Kinipela," Moana laughed. From then on, Kinipela the Pyramid butterflyfish, was known as the best swimmer in the sea.
- Kinipela means "Wave" in Polynesian.
